"Jesus's Last Passover in the Synoptics and in John"

By David Instone -Brewer (Expository Times, 112, 2001, 122-123) (online-version)

John says Jesus died on Passover while the Synoptics portray his Last Supper as a Passover meal. Of the various explanations, the best are those of Jeremias (that there was a dispute about when the new moon started the month) and Pickl (that Galileans ate Passover on the 13th), but neither found evidence that this ever happened. Maurice Casey has now highlighted Mishnah Zeb.1.3 which shows that early 2nd C Jews remembered that some people did celebrate Passover on the 13th, but they weren't sure why.
